The Edinburgh Award

Nominations for The Edinburgh Award 2008 have now closed.

Last year, the inaugural Edinburgh Award was presented to city resident author Ian Rankin. The Edinburgh Award was established to recognise an individual’s outstanding achievements and contribution to the city of Edinburgh. The criteria below are used to judge nominations.

In the last 12 months the nominee has:

  • Made an impact to the City by their contribution to the world of science, culture, sports, business, technology, charity or education
  • Gained positive media attention for Edinburgh as a result of their work
  • Continuously demonstrated the values of Edinburgh Inspiring Capital
  • Contributed to an increase in tourism, business, education or overall awareness as a result of their work
  • Was born in Edinburgh or resided in the City for the past 12 months
  • Has not previously been awarded The Freedom of the City of Edinburgh
  • Is not a previous winner of The Edinburgh Award
  • Is not a serving politician
